Injection of fillers of whatever types are usually performed as a simple outpatient procedure. Injection of fillers around the mouth and lips can be painful and usually require some form of local anaesthetic to numb the area. This may include applying a topical cream containing anaesthetic or injecting local anaesthetic, similar to the procedure used by dentist. After treatment, some redness and swelling may occur in the treated areas. This usually subsides within a day or two.
