Meet the founding surgeons

Martin Kelly MBBS, MD, FRCS(Plas)

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the tragic death of one of our founding surgeons, Martin Kelly. Our thoughts are with his family to whom he was so devoted.

I am a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and in private practice, London. I have a dedicated interest in cosmetic and breast surgery, and joined hands with the other directors of Mybreast to increase the safety and standards of breast augmentation.

My career highlights include running a busy academic program, and in addition to supervising a PhD and regularly teaching at national and international meetings, I have published over fifty peer-reviewed reports in plastic surgery.

I really enjoy developing new technologies in cosmetic surgery. And in my spare time I am a passionate musician.

I read an article in the newspapers about founding directors and their background and how passionate they were about giving women the best professional care possible.CM

Patrick Mallucci MBBS, MD, FRCS(Plas)

I have been a Consultant Plastic Surgeon for 8 years and my specialist interest within plastic surgery is cosmetic breast surgery. Having qualified from medical school my plastic surgery training took place in London, Oxford, Brisbane Australia, and Paris where I first developed my interest in breast surgery. I also spent 2 years in research looking into the challenge of scarless wound healing. I am a fully accredited plastic surgeon and a member of both the BAAPS and BAPRAS, our umbrella organisations in plastic surgery.

My career highlights include being elected to the council of the BAAPS, as well as representing the plastic surgery division of the royal society of medicine as secretary. I also speak internationally on the subject of breast surgery, as well as contributing to implant design and publication of work in this field. Additionally, I enjoy working in the media, having been involved in several popular chat shows as well as documentaries on the subject of Plastic surgery.

Outside of plastic surgery I am passionate about sport and music – I still haven’t hung up my football boots and of late I have become obsessed with the world of cycling.

Simon Withey MBBS, MS, FRCS(Eng), FRCS(Ed), FRCS(Plas)

I am a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital, London and a member of the academic committee of the European Course for Head and Neck reconstruction.

I qualified in medicine in 1984, with surgical experience in neurosurgery, abdominal and vascular surgery and cardiac surgery before embarking on plastic surgical training and have been working as a plastic surgeon for fifteen years.

My career highlights include being awarded a travelling fellowship by the British Association of Aesthetic Surgeons, through which I spent a year in Paris where I gained considerable experience in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. I have also published over thirty peer reviewed papers in Plastic Surgery.

I have an active interest in surgical research, having recently been awarded a research grant by the Royal College of Surgeons.

My interests include sculpture and skiing. The appreciation of three dimensions and the training of the aesthetic eye developed while learning to sculpt is enormously helpful when it comes to surgery, and has made me even more of a perfectionist.

Norman Waterhouse MBChB, FRCS(Eng), FRCS(Ed), FRCS(Plas)

I have over twenty years experience in Cosmetic surgery and am now in full time private cosmetic surgery practise.

My career highlights include being President of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, Lead Clinician, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Craniofacial Unit, President of the Royal Society of Medicine (Plastic Surgery Section), Co-Founder, Charity Facing the World, Aesthetic Tutor, Royal College of Surgeons, Award of 'Champion of Children'.

In addition, I have published over 40 papers in medical literature and I have an active research and teaching programme in my NHS practice. I also supervise undergraduate degree courses with Imperial College and lecture nationally and internationally on the techniques of modern cosmetic surgery.

I have also just published a book called Cosmetic Surgery the facts, which provides a clear and informative guide to cosmetic surgery and an overview of the range of procedures now available. The book also features an explanation of what makes a well-trained cosmetic surgeon and how to choose one. Click here to view the book on Amazon.

I enjoy the opportunity to enhance the quality of peoples lives by practicing plastic surgery. My other hobbies include being a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Karate, experienced rock climber, mountaineer, scuba diver and skydiver. I also have a passion for Ancient Greek and Roman History.

Peter E M Butler MD, FRCSI, FRCS, FRCS (Plas)
