A body lift is a relatively new procedure to remove extreme amounts of sagging excess skin.
It is designed for those who have lost a huge amount of weight, particularly from gastric band surgery, where the skin has been so over-stretched it will never regain tone or elasticity.
This form of surgery involves procedures on multiple areas of the body to tighten the tissues of the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks and lower back. The result is an overall more youthful appearance and contoured body shape.
Surgery is performed in two to three stages. In stages one and two, excess skin and fat is removed from the buttocks, hips, back and thighs, on both sides. Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is performed in stage three.
Scarring is inevitable, but should be hidden by underwear and will fade over time.
The procedure takes place under a general anaesthetic, with a two to four-day stay in hospital.
Recovery time is around four to six weeks. Stitches are dissolvable and will not need to be removed.
