Breast lift (mastopexy) without implants
Occasionally breast enlargement alone will not be sufficient to achieve the desired breast shape. This is because the breast is too droopy. After pregnancy, or having lost a significant amount of weight, it’s common for women to have droopy breasts.
If your breasts have sufficient volume but their hang is unsatisfactory, then a breast lift will restore a more desirable breast appearance. This operation involves lifting the breast by tightening and removing excess skin in order to produce an uplifted and more pert looking breast. The amount of scarring that occurs will depend on how much the breast needs to be lifted to achieve the ideal look. You will need to talk to your surgeon to discuss the matter in detail.
Breast lift with implants
Some women have droopy breasts with very little breast volume, in such cases, lifting alone will not be sufficient to produce the desired look. A combination of a breast implant with a lift will be needed to achieve the ideal breast. Your surgeon will discuss the procedure in detail including the size of the implant and the extent of the lift required.
Operation and recovery
Breast lift surgery is normally carried out under general anaesthetic, so you’ll need to stay overnight in hospital. Time off work is generally one to two weeks, with full recovery by six weeks.
Breast reduction
Very large breasts can be a great source of discomfort, causing problems such as poor posture, neck ache, back ache, bra strap pain, skin irritation and difficulty finding clothes. Breast reduction is an effective way to address these issues, so reduction surgery is a commonly requested operation.
Mysurgeon did an amazing job on my breast reduction. After lots of chats, we decided the exact size and shape I wanted and the result has been spot on.EL
Breast reduction surgery involves removing excess skin and breast tissue to achieve a new and improved size and shape. The resulting amount of scarring will depend on how much your breasts need to be reduced. We recommend discussing your needs with a Mybreast surgeon, who will operate to achieve what you want.
Operation and recovery
Breast reductions are carried out under a general anaesthetic and usually involve an overnight stay in hospital. Dressings tend to be needed for the first 2 to 3 weeks, and most women will take 1 to 2 weeks off work for the early recovery period. Recovery time back to normal and full activity is generally about 6 weeks.
Uneven breasts (breast asymmetry)
It’s very common for a woman’s breasts to be slightly different. Occasionally, however, there is a significant difference, with one breast being noticeably larger than the other. Naturally this can be a source of worry and something which many women are very self conscious about. This problem is much more common than you might think. Fortunately, Mybreast can help you.
We will naturally try to match your breasts as closely as possible. Depending on your situation, this might entail making your smaller breast larger to match your bigger one. Alternatively, sometimes the larger one is made smaller to match the smaller of the two, if that one is the preferred size and shape.
One boob was always bigger than the other, which really bothered me and made me self conscious, especially in my bikini. I had the larger breast reduced to the size of the smaller one and I am so happy with the outcome.LM
Surgery might therefore involve the use of an implant on one side in combination with lifting or reducing on the other side. To make sure you achieve the result that you want, please discuss the problem with a Mybreast surgeon.
Operation and recovery
Surgery to correct uneven breasts is carried out under general anaesthetic. Time off work is generally one to two weeks, with full recovery by six weeks.
Exchange of implants (changing old implants for new ones)
There is no hard and fast rule for when implants should be changed. Older implants are thought to be less durable than modern implants, which have thicker shells and a more solid form of silicone. The life expectancy of modern, high-grade implants like the ones used at Mybreast is yet to be known, but is now very likely to exceed the 10 years previously expected.
If you have had implants for a long time, they could harden and become uncomfortable, or rupture. Although neither the hardening nor the rupturing is a health risk, in order to be more comfortable you may need to have your implants replaced.
To exchange your implants, your surgeon will normally use previous incisions (scars) to gain entry to the breast, and remove the old implants and any associated scar tissue. The surgeon will then place new implants in the breast pockets according to the desired size and look that you discussed with your surgeon before your operation.
Repeat implantation is sometimes not as straightforward as the first operation because of the added scarring and the effect the old implants may have had on the breast over time. Breast tissue can become thinner over years, causing implants to be more obvious. In such a case, your surgeon will need to change the type of implant as well its position.
Operation and recovery
For surgery to exchange implants you’ll need a general anaesthetic, and you’ll probably have to stay in hospital overnight, occasionally slightly longer if there is prolonged drainage because of the extra scarring. Time off work is between one and two weeks, with return to full activity in six weeks.
Inverted nipples (nipples that point inwards)
This condition is relatively common. There are varying degrees of nipple inversion, from nipples which retract or go in occasionally, to those that are permanently in all the time. The extent of the nipple inversion will determine the nature of the technique required to correct the situation. It’s thought that the cause of inverted nipples is due to shortening of the milk ducts as they come into the nipple. Release or partial division of these ducts is one of the key elements of correction.
Even though hardly anyone sees your nipples it’s incredible how sensitive I was about having nipples point inwards. I had my nipples corrected with Mybreast and I now feel so much better.EL
Side effects of the surgery may include a potential inability to breast feed (certainly not in all cases), and reduced sensation to the nipple can occur temporarily. Very stubborn nipples may have a tendency to want to go back in after the surgery; they rarely require more than one procedure.
Operation and recovery
Correcting your inverted nipples is a simple operation needing only a local anaesthetic and you can be in and out of hospital within a day.
