Is breast enhancement surgery right for me?
If you are over 18 years of age, and have small breasts that are not too different from each other, you may be suitable for breast enhancement surgery but this is for your surgeon to confirm.
It’s important to have realistic expectations though: this type of surgery can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence – it has done so for thousands of women around Britain. But it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. So before you decide to have breast enlargement surgery, please think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.
I lost weight 2 years ago and I'm a trim size 10 now which meant I could wear clothes that I'd never dreamt of before, but my saggy boobs were keeping me unhappy with my shape. They’re sorted now after a BA with Mybreast, I feel like a different person to before.LM
Nipples position
If they are positioned a little low on your chest, breast enlargement surgery may help to lift them. If they are very low, however, this operation alone may not be the solution, as it might add too much volume in the upper pole of the breast. In such a case, you may also need a type of surgery, called a mastopexy*, to lift your nipples. This is sometimes combined with breast enlargement surgery to give the best shape to a new breast.
Different size breasts
Every woman's two breasts are different. If yours are markedly different (you have what’s called “breast asymmetry”), breast enlargement surgery could exaggerate the difference, and you may need adjustments on one side to compensate.
Non-enlargement surgery
Mybreast also offers other types of cosmetic surgery e.g. breast reductions, nipple realignment and breast lift surgery.
Other important considerations
- If your natural breast shape is very limited beneath the nipple, and the areolas look puffy, you may have what are known as tuberous breasts. These require adjustments to prepare the breast for breast enlargement surgery.
- If you have a history of breast disease, painful breasts or previous breast enlargement surgery, then surgery may not be for you. Your surgeon at mybreast will be happy to discuss the choice of options available to you and ensure breast enlargement surgery is the most suitable procedure.
- If you have a first degree relative history of breast cancer or have been told that you carry breast cancer genes, you should think carefully before surgically altering your breasts through breast enlargement surgery. Ask your mybreast surgeon for advice about cancer detection and how to manage your breast cancer risk if considering breast enlargement surgery.
- If you have a congenital malformation of the chest wall or pectoral muscles, you may be suitable for breast enlargement surgery in special circumstances. Ask your surgeon at mybreast about what options might be available for you.
- If you have a medical condition such as diabetes, autoimmune disease or a tendency to bleed easily, or if you are on medication that thins the blood, you may not be a candidate for breast enlargement surgery.
If you're physically healthy, not in any of the categories above, and realistic in your expectations, you’re likely to be suitable for breast enlargement surgery.
