At Mybreast your breast enlargement surgeon is your consultant

Your first consultation at Mybreast is unlike the typical ones offered by many of the larger cosmetic surgery groups. With them you’re likely to meet a sales advisor or possibly a nurse. With Mybreast you’ll meet one of our breast surgeons. And not just any of our surgeons, but the same one who will perform your operation - should you wish to go ahead with breast surgery.

To get the most out of your consultation, it’s important to:

  • Bring details of your medical history because you will need to complete a medical questionnaire.
  • Discuss your expectations. Have an idea of what you want, so you can discuss your expectations with the surgeon clearly.
  • Have a little prior knowledge. Read as much of this website as you can. Your research will help you get the most from your consultation. Below are some independent websites, that you may find helpful:

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons:
    www.baaps.org.uk

British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons:
    www.bapras.org.uk

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA):
    www.silicone-review.gov.uk
  • Prepare a list of questions to ask us. You can view a list of questions to bring with you to your consultation.
  • Bring a second pair of ears. You may find yourself swamped with information. Sometimes our patients find it helpful to attend a consultation with a partner, family member or friend.

I spoke to a very informative and friendly patient coordinator at Mybreast who answered lots of questions for me and always got back to my emails and voicemails, so I always felt there was someone I could talk to even before going in for my first consultation.CM

From the consultation you can expect to:

  • Be asked to return for a second consultation
With many preoperative consultations you will be asked to come back for a second meeting, so the surgeon can ensure you both have similar aims and expectations, and you are fully aware of the implications of surgery. There is no charge for a further preoperative consultation. It is another chance to ask any questions you may have forgotten at the first meeting. Second consultations usually last for less than half an hour.
  • Discuss limitations, implications and possible complications
It is important that you are aware of the implications of surgery in terms of possible complications, swelling, scarring and bruising, time needed in hospital, time that will be required for recovery and the time before you can return to work and exercise. Your surgeon will address each of these issues with you in detail.
  • Possibly be advised to delay surgery to a more suitable date
This could be advised due to any one of the following reasons:

    1. Because your health may be improved beforehand, possibly by stopping/ reducing smoking or even by seeking a medical opinion from your GP.
    2. Because you are taking tablets that may complicate surgery – the most common of these will be aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory tablets.
    3. Because there are concerns you are not giving yourself sufficient recovery time before you MUST be ready for work or an important social engagement/ long haul flight etc.

When booking my consultation, Mybreast was very accommodating; I had to travel an hour to my chosen clinic so they gave me an evening appointment which was also the last appointment of the day.CM
