What is breast uplift surgery?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that changes the size and shape of the chest by removing excess skin and lifting the breasts. Breast uplift surgery may be an option if you’re concerned about the look of your breasts and feel like they are drooping.

Why choose MyBreast for breast uplift surgery?

MyBreast’s highly qualified surgeons take a personalised approach to breast uplift surgery. This helps ensure you receive the best results for your needs and desired outcomes. When you choose MyBreast, you’ll gain access to our dedicated plastic surgeons and state-of-the-art facilities. Our tailored approach to mastopexy means you’ll always receive natural-looking results and our total support.

Breast uplift benefits

The many potential benefits of a mastopexy include:

  • A more youthful appearance
  • Boosted body confidence
  • A contoured and enhanced breast shape
  • Reduced signs of ageing
  • Tightened chest appearance due to sagging skin removal

We want you to feel comfortable in your skin, and our breast uplift surgery can help you regain confidence in your appearance.

How do I know if this procedure is right for me?

At MyBreast, our patients go through several steps to ensure their and the procedure’s suitability. Several consultations with your personal Patient Adviser and surgeon will help us meet your needs.

All surgical procedures come with risks. However, our thorough consultation process keeps you informed and identifies any potential areas of concern. We will only proceed if we feel it’s in your best interests and the benefits outweigh the risks.

Sometimes, there’s not enough breast volume to achieve your desired look without an implant, necessitating a breast lift with an implant procedure. Your surgeon can advise on which method is best suited to you.

If you’re not a suitable candidate, we will tell you. At MyBreast, your wellbeing and safety are at the forefront of all we do.

On the day

On the day of your procedure, our friendly hospital team will welcome you. Your dedicated nurse will take you to your private room, where you will also see your surgeon and anaesthetist before surgery.

We usually ask you to arrive a few hours before your procedure so we can take observations to ensure you’re fit and well. You’ll also have time to relax and settle any nerves.

The procedure is carried out under a general anaesthetic and requires an overnight stay in the hospital. In most cases, we discharge patients on the following day.

The mastopexy procedure involves raising the breast by tightening and removing excess skin and tissue to produce an uplifted breast. We may also need to reposition your nipple.

Lifting the breast will involve some scarring. The incision required will depend on the breasts’ droopiness. These scars may be restricted to the area around the nipple (circumareolar) or extend onto the breast (lollipop or anchor).

After breast uplift surgery

Once the procedure is complete, the recovery team will ensure you’re fit and well before returning to your private room. We’ll provide you with a post-surgical garment, which will be in place when you awake. You must then stay in the hospital with us overnight.

We won’t discharge you from the hospital until you’re well enough to leave. Please arrange for someone to collect you from the hospital and stay with you for the first 24 hours.

Your dressings will remain in place for two weeks, and you must wear a surgical support bra for six weeks following the operation.

Your surgeon will tell you exactly what to expect and how to support your recovery from surgery best.

A complete recovery from a breast lift without implants usually takes between six and eight weeks.

FAQs

Is a breast uplift painful?

Everybody’s experience of pain following a breast lift is unique. Most people describe the pain as moderate discomfort that improves in the first few weeks. When you leave the hospital, we’ll provide you with pain relief medication to help you manage any discomfort.

How long does a breast lift last?

People differ, but most patients’ breast lift surgery results last for between ten and 15 years. However, in many cases, results can last even longer.

As the body ages, changes are inevitable. Putting on or losing weight, for instance, can affect the size and shape of your breasts.

At what age should I get a breast lift?

For most women, the breasts continue to develop until about 17. However, some women continue to grow into their 20s. We do not recommend breast lift surgery for patients whose breast development is not yet complete.

Usually, if your breasts haven’t changed size or shape for a year, we consider your breasts fully developed.

We do not operate on patients under 18.

How long does a mastopexy take?

Generally, a mastopexy takes between two and three hours to complete.

Will my breasts be smaller after a breast uplift?

Breast uplift surgery aims to change the profile, not the size, of the breasts, to lift them back to where they used to be on your chest. As a result, your cup size slightly decreases due to the change in profile rather than your breasts being smaller.

Any form of breast surgery may affect the style of bra that fits best and how comfortable you feel wearing it.

You should follow recommendations from your surgeon about wearing the correct bra for the weeks following breast uplift surgery. Generally, you should wear a surgical support bra for 6 weeks afterwards. Please ask your surgeon what is best for your needs.

How much does a breast uplift (mastopexy) cost?

The cost of a breast lift without implants depends on your situation and desired results.

Your surgeon will thoroughly examine you at your consultation and discuss your surgical requirements. Then, they’ll explain exactly how much your procedure will cost based on your precise requirements, so there will be no surprises and hidden extras.

We will be honest and transparent and ensure there are no hidden costs. Your package will always include everything from pre-assessment and consultations to hospital stay and aftercare.

Is mastopexy safe?

Breast uplift surgery is considered a safe plastic surgery procedure. However, there are potential risks, as with any surgery. They include scarring, infection, sensation changes in your nipples and, rarely, an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic.

Our team takes every precaution to minimise mastopexy risks.

Can breast uplift surgery be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Some women get a breast uplift and augmentation or a breast fat transfer at the same time to achieve their desired look.
