As you get older, the skin on your forehead starts to lose its elasticity and forehead lines or wrinkles start to appear. The brow lifting procedure lifts the tissues of the forehead to a higher position, this raises the eyebrows and opens the upper eyelid to give a younger, fresher appearance. The muscles at the top of the nose can also be weakened to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in that area.
A brow lift is performed under general anaesthetic and usually requires an overnight stay in hospital. The surgery itself takes approximately 1½ -2 hours to complete. The surgeon will assess you during your consultation prior to day of surgery and will use a technique suited entirely to your facial structure, skin condition and hairline.
All of this information will help determine where the incisions will be made in order to minimise visible scars.
Straight after surgery you should get plenty of rest for 2-3 days as you will experience some swelling and bruising that should settle down 1-2 weeks after surgery and many patients are able to return to normal activities at that stage. More major surgery may require a longer recovery period so it’s important to discuss this with your surgeon.
It is usually possible to return to work within 10-14 days. The stitches will be removed within 10 days. The surgeon will ensure that scars are hidden under the hairline and are usually minimal, fading over 4-6 months.
